How to apply

To apply for admission for the 2019/2020 academic year, the following documents must be sent by surface mail:

  • Signed and completed MESt Application Form (download in .pdf format).
  • Documentary evidence of academic qualifications (Degrees/Diplomas as well as Transcript of Records).
  • Documentary evidence of completion of secondary school (e.g. diploma).
  • Documentary evidence of proficiency in English.
  • Curriculum vitae (resumé) with details of higher-education. The applicant's qualifications as such and in relation to the subjects and topics of the aspired Master's program "Ecumenical Studies" or "Extended Ecumenical Studies" should be clearly discernible. A Statement of Motivation of maximum 1 page may be attached to the CV.
  • A sample of written work in German or English of no more than 10 pages in length (selected parts of seminar papers, Bachelor´s theses, etc.), which provide adequate grounds for the evaluation of the applicant´s qualification. In accord with the provisions of paragraph IV of the Scholastic Assessment Test (Appendix 4, Examination Regulations”, the results of this evaluation must reach at 10 out of 30 points for each of the following criteria:

o fundamentals of academic writing
o ability to adequately present and reflect academic problems and theories,
o ability to theoretically describe and interpret present and historical phenomena of Christian theology and culture, on the basis of the applicant’s previous studies

The applicant is to confirm in writing that the text was written independently, that none other than the specified sources and aids were used, and that any and all citations are denoted as such. The examination board can require an identical version of the written assignment suitable for electronic comparison in a format specified by the examination board.

  • Please only submit photocopies of your documentation. You will be asked to produce original documents at a later stage.


Application Period for the 2020/21 Academic Year

1st January – 1st July
NB: Students wishing to apply for the MESt Faculty Scholarship (see here) must submit their applications along with their application for admission until April 31st.
