The popular uprisings of January 25th to February 11th, 2011 in Egypt stirred
excitement and inspiration. At their core, the protests were about citizens demanding their legitimate human rights,
dignity, and a voice in their country's future. Yet, history shows that such
progressive movements against repressive regimes are no guarantee of a
path to democracy. Now, more than two years into the Arab Spring,
euphoria seems a thing of the past, and the heady days of protest and
triumph at Tahrir Square in Cairo have been replaced by frustration and
setbacks. What went wrong with the Egyptian dream?
