How to apply

Applications for the academic year 2024 - 2025 must be submitted between 2 January and 1 July 2024. 

Applicants interested in applying for the MESt Faculty Scholarship must submit their documents by April 30th. Students in need of a Visa to travel to Germany are encouraged to apply as early as possible.

Applications must be submitted online on the official Portal for Masterapplications of the University of Bonn. 

Useful information for your online application:

  1. The Master's program in Ecumenical Studies is awarded the degree of “Master of Arts“
  2. The “Ecumenical Studies“ format (one year) is based on an undergraduate degree with which a minimum of 240 CP was obtained.
  3. The “Extended Ecumenical Studies“ format (two years) is based on an undergraduate degree in which a minimum of 180 CP was obtained.

During the application process, you will be asked to upload the following documents, in PDF format:

  1. School leaving certificate
  2. Bachelor's degree(s) and the Transcript(s) of Records; Master's degree(s) – if any – and the Transcript(s) of Records (documents which are not originally in English or German must be submitted in certified translation)
  3. English Language Certificate (unless you have previously completed a university degree in a program conducted at least partially in the English language)
  4. Letter of motivation
  5. CV
  6. Scholarshisp Application, in case you are interested in applying for the MESt Faculty Scholarship – please, see details here.
  7. A sample of written work of maximum 10 pages (selected parts of seminar papers, Bachelor's theses, etc.), which provides adequate grounds for the evaluation of the applicant's qualification. The following criteria will be considered when assessing the written sample:
    • fundamentals of academic writing
    • ability to adequately present and reflect academic problems and theories
    • ability to theoretically describe and interpret present and historical phenomena of Christian theology and culture, on the basis of the applicant's previous studies.

The applicant is to confirm in writing that the text was written independently, that none other than the specified sources and aids were used, and that any and all citations are denoted as such.

Applicants from India and China are required to submit an APS certificate.

Application Period for the 2024/2025 Academic Year

2 January - 1 July 2024. 

NB: Students wishing to apply for the MESt Faculty Scholarship must submit their applications along with their application for admission until April 30th.

Incomplete applications will not be considered.
